Virtual Workshop on Debt Sustainability Analysis and IMF Policies

December 4-18, 2020

Following the successful pilot in July, the CICDC presented a second virtual workshop on Debt Sustainability Analysis and IMF Policies on December 4-18, 2020, taught by staff from the IMF’s Strategy, Policy, and Review Department, Institute for Capacity Development, and Legal Department. There were 19 participants from various Chinese agencies and development financial institutions, plus 17 participants from government agencies in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Myanmar. The workshop provided an overview of the tools available to assist with debt sustainability analysis, with a special focus on how to use them to assess cases where debt is not sustainable and resolution is needed; it also covered the global architecture for debt resolution and the IMF’s Debt Limits Policy. The workshop was run in two sessions to accommodate participants in different time zones.
