CICDC Course on Monetary and Financial Statistics-Introductory

September 11 to September 22, 2023.  

The CICDC presented a BRI course on Monetary and Financial Statistics-Introductory in Shenzhen Finance Training Center, from September 11 to September 22, 2023.  The course was delivered by staff from the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) onsite. 50 Chinese participants from the People's Bank of China, Ministry of Finance, National Financial Regulation Administration, China Securities Regulatory Commission, State Administration of Foreign Exchange, as well as 3 participants from relevant government agencies of Lao PDR, attended the course on site.  The course provides participants with an introduction to the compilation of monetary statistics covering the central bank (CB) and other depository corporations (ODCs) in accordance with international standards. The course discusses the principles of residency and sectorization of institutional units, the characteristics and types of financial instruments, valuation principles, and other accounting issues that are relevant to the compilation of monetary statistics. The course also provides exercises covering practical aspects of compiling monetary statistics, especially the use of financial statements for filling out standardized report. Participants provided their perspectives and experiences on the issues covered in the course. The course was highly received by the participants.

During the course, the IMF counselors and participants visited Huawei Technologies Co. in Shenzhen.
