CICDC Course on Macroeconometric Forecasting and Analysis

December 4 to December 8, 2023

The CICDC presented a course on Macroeconometric Forecasting and Analysis in Dalian Training Center, from December 4 to December 8, 2023. The course was delivered by staff from the Institute for Capacity Development Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) onsite. 25 Chinese participants from National Development and Reform Commission and its local branches attended the course. The course aims to give government officials a rigorous foundation in the estimation of macro-econometric models and their application for macroeconomic forecasting, and policy analysis. The course covers univariate and multivariate econometric time series models, state-space models, and nowcasting techniques as BRIDGE, MIDAS, and UMIDAS models. Each topic includes a lecture that discusses the underlying theory and a workshop with applications using EViews. Participants work on hands-on estimation and forecasting exercises to apply the knowledge to practice.

Steven Barnett, Senior Resident Representative of the IMF in China, was invited to attend the course and gave a lecture on “China's economic forecasting and methodology”.
