CICDC course on Financial Sector Surveillance
December 9-13, 2024
From December 9 to 13, 2024, the course on Financial Sector Surveillance, co-organized by CICDC and the People’s Bank of China, took place in Shenzhen. 46 participants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam, joined the course.
This course, delivered by Mr. Alejandro Guerson, Mr. Rasool Zandvakil, and Mr. Javier Hamann from the IMF Institute for Capacity Development, introduced participants to key concepts and tools used in the identification and assessment of financial sector vulnerabilities and sources of strength. The course provided a basic toolkit to assess financial sector risks and measure them against existing capital and liquidity buffers in the financial system. The discussions focused on the early identification of macro-financial imbalances and the analysis of the transmission of financial distress across institutions, markets, and economic sectors, with the objective of reducing the likelihood and the severity of financial crises. A combination of lectures and hands-on workshops allowed participants to apply essential risk assessment techniques. The course was well received by the participants.
