CICDC Course on Nowcasting

From October 27 to 31, 2025, the China-IMF Capacity Development Center (CICDC) and the People’s Bank of China jointly hosted a course on Nowcasting in Shenzhen, China. The program brought together 34 participants, including 22 from the headquarters and local branches of the People’s Bank of China, the National Bureau of Statistics, the General Administration of Customs, and local customs offices, as well as 12 participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malawi, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Somalia, and Sudan.
The course was led by Mr. Klakow Akepanidtaworn and Ms. Anji Yang from the IMF Institute for Capacity Development (ICD), together with Mr. Marco E. Terrones, a professor at the Universidad del Pacífico, Peru. The course focused on nowcasting models, covering key topics such as time series analysis, various estimators, factor models, machine learning, and hands-on practice with EViews. In addition, Ms. Ivy Sabuga from the IMF Institute for Capacity Development (ICD) was invited to deliver an online lecture, using China’s real GDP data to guide participants in systematically mastering both the theoretical framework and practical skills of nowcasting.
